What to Consider

Magnification Range: 1-6x for CQB-focused, 1-8x for versatility, 1-10x for precision at distance.

True 1x: Critical for close-range speed. Test before buying if possible—some "1x" optics aren't truly 1x.

Reticle: FFP (First Focal Plane) reticles scale with magnification—subtensions accurate at any zoom. SFP (Second Focal Plane) simpler but only accurate at max zoom.

Weight: LPVOs run 18-30 oz. Consider your AR-15's balance and mission.

Mounting

Use quality mounts. Popular options: Geissele Super Precision ($325), Badger Ordnance C1 ($300), ADM Recon ($170). Budget: Aero Precision Ultralight ($65).

Our Recommendation

For most shooters, the Primary Arms PLx 1-8x offers the best value. The ACSS reticle is brilliant for quick ranging and holds, glass quality rivals optics costing twice as much, and the price is reasonable.

If budget allows, the Vortex Razor Gen III 1-10x is the best LPVO made—period. The extra magnification, glass quality, and true 1x make it worth the investment for serious users.
